Zimbabwe Carmelites Celebrate Novitiate and Simple Profession

Zimbabwe Novitiate and Simple Profession

The Carmelite Commissariat of Zimbabwe recently celebrated two significant milestones in the journey of formation, giving thanks to God for the generous response of young men who continue to answer the Lord’s call to Carmel.

On the eve of 4 July 2026, the Order joyfully welcomed ten young men into the Novitiate. The new novices include five from Zimbabwe, one from Mozambique, one from Burkina Faso, and three from Kenya, and two additional novices from Tanzania.

According to the Carmelite Constitutions, the novitiate is a privileged period of discernment and formation in which novices begin to experience the Carmelite way of life more deeply through prayer, fraternity, and service. It is a time of growing in intimate friendship with God while discerning the authenticity of one’s vocation and embracing the Gospel according to the charism of Carmel.

The Reception into the Novitiate was enriched by the presence of members of the Third Order Carmelites of the Prophet Elijah Community. In his reflection, the Commissary Administrator encouraged the novices to cultivate patient and generous hearts, remain open to God’s transforming grace, imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary in treasuring the Word of God, and be inspired by the prophetic zeal of Elijah, our spiritual Father.

The following day, Saturday, 4 July 2026, the Carmelite Family gathered once again to celebrate the Simple Profession of five Brothers—three from Zimbabwe and two from Kenya.

By professing the evangelical counsels of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience for a determined period, these Brothers publicly dedicated their lives to God according to the Rule of St. Albert and the Carmelite way of life. Their profession marks an important stage in their journey of discipleship as they commit themselves more fully to lives of contemplative prayer, fraternal communion, and joyful service under the patronage of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and inspired by the zeal of the Prophet Elijah.

While Simple Profession is a significant milestone, it is not the culmination of the Carmelite vocation but the beginning of a deeper pilgrimage of transformation through contemplation, silence, community life, and faithful service.

As the Carmelite Family gives thanks for these generous vocations, we entrust both the newly received novices and the newly professed Brothers to the maternal care of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. May she guide and protect them as they continue to seek the face of the living God, and may the Prophet Elijah inspire them always to stand in the presence of the Lord with hearts ablaze with zeal.
