The past few days have offered a rich glimpse into the life of the Carmelite community in Moate, marked by prayer, learning, and a deep sense of shared mission.
At the Carmelite Pastoral Centre, a well-attended lecture by Dr Rory Masterson explored the history of the Medieval Diocese of Clonmacnois and its bishops, offering valuable insight into the Church’s heritage in the region.
The community also welcomed Bishop Paul Connell, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois, pictured with Fr Jimmy Murray, reflecting the strong connections between the Carmelites and the wider diocesan family.
As part of Vocations Sunday, Sr Gwen and Sr Vandana from New Ross Carmel visited Moate to give a presentation on the Carmelite way of life, sharing their lived experience of prayer, community, and service.
Meanwhile, members of Vocations Ireland participated in the Youth 2000 Connaught Retreat Day at Knock on April 25, continuing the important work of encouraging and supporting vocations among young people.
A special highlight was the use of a Carmelite chalice dating from 1822 in Ballinahowen Church, dedicated to Fr A. Coleman, O.Carm. — a tangible link to the rich spiritual and historical legacy of the Order.
Together, these moments reflect the ongoing life of the Carmelite community — rooted in tradition, engaged in the present, and looking to the future with hope.
