Commemoration Day: 25 Years Since the Visit of the Relics of St Thérèse of Lisieux

This year marks a significant anniversary in the life of the Church in Ireland — 25 years since the Relics of St Thérèse of Lisieux first arrived on Irish soil.

To mark this occasion, a special commemoration day will take place on Sunday, 14 June at Whitefriar Street Church, Dublin.

In 2001, the relics were carried with great dignity by members of the Defence Forces’ 10th Battalion in Wexford, following their arrival by ferry into Rosslare Harbour. What followed was an extraordinary 80-day pilgrimage across the country, during which an estimated three million people gathered, day and night, to venerate the Little Flower. It was a remarkable moment of faith, devotion, and unity that remains deeply rooted in the memory of many.

St Thérèse’s message continues to resonate today. Her Little Way reminds us that holiness is found not in extraordinary deeds, but in small, everyday acts of love carried out with great care. It is a path open to all — simple, accessible, and deeply transformative.

This special day of commemoration is organised in collaboration with Fr Simon Nolan, O.Carm., Fr James Noonan, OCD, and the Sweeney Family, bringing together the Carmelite family in thanksgiving and prayer.
