🌍 Faith, fellowship, and unforgettable moments — that’s what 50 young Irish pilgrims experienced as they journeyed to Rome via the European Carmelite Pilgrimage, gathering alongside the wider Catholic community for the Jubilee of Youth.
Led by Prior Provincial Fr Simon Nolan, O.Carm., the group’s days were filled with prayer, celebration, and deep encounters with God’s presence in the heart of the Eternal City.
📿 Enrolment in the Brown Scapular
Along their pilgrim route — having just stepped through the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica — the young people were enrolled in the Brown Scapular by Fr Simon in the chapel of the Carmelite Centro Internazionale di Sant’Alberto. This powerful moment symbolised their commitment to live under the protection and guidance of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
⛪ Jubilee of Youth Mass
Fr Simon served as celebrant and preacher at the Jubilee of Youth Mass in the Carmelite Basilica of San Martino ai Monti. In his homily, he reminded the young people that this pilgrimage was “not just about being in Rome, it is about starting a new path in your heart.”
He encouraged them to pray:
“Jesus, I believe You can do miracles in me.”
“Jesus, let this year be the start of something new.”
Fr Simon’s words called them to courage — to move beyond being spectators in the Church and to become bold witnesses to God’s grace.
✨ Nights of Faith and Joy
Saturday night became a memory to cherish — from the joy of seeing Pope Francis pass by in the popemobile, to the quiet moments of prayer under the stars with hundreds of thousands of young pilgrims from around the world.
Mary from Dublin reflected:
“You realise you’re not alone in your faith… there’s so much hope in the world — we just have to look for it.”
Sheamus, also from Dublin, shared:
“It’s been uplifting to meet people from Ireland and across the world who share a deep love of Jesus Christ… this gives us real hope moving into 2025.”
🙏 Looking Ahead
As the pilgrimage concluded, the young Irish pilgrims returned home with renewed faith, new friendships, and a deeper understanding of Carmelite spirituality — ready to live out their calling with joy, courage, and hope.
