Carmelite Safeguarding Training
To ensure that all church personnel are supported to respond to child safeguarding issues and equipped to safeguard children and promote their welfare, the Carmelite Order provides an accredited training programme, listed in the table below.
Training type | Content | Who should attend? |
Full Day training (5 hour session, 1 occasion)
| An introduction to child safeguarding & protection; equips participants with knowledge on what safeguarding children is; how to safeguard children; creating & maintaining safe environments; and how to recognise, respond to, record and report child abuse | All Church personnel working directly with children |
Refresher sessions (3 hour session, every 3 years)
| A review of topics explored in the Full Day session | Church personnel working directly with children who have previously completed the Full Day Training |
Mandated Persons Training (1.5 hour session, every 3 years) | Explanation of the role and requirements of Mandated Persons | All Church Personnel defined as Mandated Persons

Information sessions (2 hours, every 3 years)
| Recognising abuse and explanation of the reporting procedures | Church personnel who are not directly involved with children |
Training for Young Leaders (3 hours)
| Recognising abuse and explanation of the reporting procedures | Young people who are taking on a leadership role with other children or young people |
Child & Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding Training for Lourdes Pilgrims (2 hours, every 3 years) | Recognising abuse & understanding the reporting procedures | All adult Lourdes volunteers |
Safeguarding in Lourdes (1 hour session, 1 occasion) | Recognising abuse & exploration of support structures within the pilgrimage | All school aged Lourdes volunteers |
