Titus Brandsma Rome Pilgrimage

Photos from the Carmelite Pilgrimage to Rome (12th - 17th May, 2022)

The Irish Province of Carmelites organised a pilgrimage to Rome for the Canonisation of Titus Brandsma from 12th – 17th May. The pilgrims attended several events over the days, joining with the International Carmelite pilgrimage for the celebrations.

The pilgrimage was very much enjoyed by all who took part. It was a great celebration of all things Carmelite, but especially of our great new Saint, Titus Brandsma, who is an inspiration to all who seek to live the Carmelite way in the modern world. Below are some images from the pilgrimage.

DAY 1

Day 1 (Friday) began with a visit to St Albert’s International Centre, where Titus stayed during his time in Rome. The Irish and British Pilgrims celebrated Mass together and received a tour of the Centre.

DAY 2

On Day 2 of the Pilgrimage (Saturday), the Irish group joined with the wider International Carmelite Pilgrimage for a Thanksgiving Celebration and Vigil in the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls, led by the Prior General, Fr Míċéal O’Neill.

DAY 3

Day 3 of the pilgrimage began early, to attend the Canonisation of Titus Brandsma at St Peter’s, at 10.00 am. The main event was followed by prayer and a fraternal gathering at St Albert’s International Centre.

DAY 4

On Day 4, the final day of the pilgrimage, a Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated in St Peter’s Basilica. The celebrant was Willem Jacobus Cardinal Eijk, Archbishop of Utrecht.
