During this Lenten season, Whitefriar Street Church in Dublin will host a special series of reflections exploring the meaning of Lent through the rich spiritual heritage of the Carmelite tradition. The talks will be given by Fr Míceál O’Neill, O.Carm., former Prior General of the Carmelite Order, whose years of service and reflection on Carmelite spirituality offer a unique opportunity for deeper insight into the Lenten journey.
Inspired by the words of Jesus to the Samaritan woman — “If you only knew the gift of God” (John 4:10) — the series invites participants to reflect on how Lent opens our hearts to the gifts God wishes to share with us. Through prayer, reflection, and teaching, the talks will explore how the traditional practices of the Church help lead us to a deeper encounter with Christ.
Each talk will take place after the 3 p.m. Mass at Whitefriar Street Church on the following dates:
- March 18 – Prayer, fasting and almsgiving: Pathways to discovery (Available on YouTube)
- March 25 – The desert: The place and conditions for discovery (Available on YouTube)
- April 1 – The Cross of Jesus Christ: The truth that we discover (Available on YouTube)
Rooted in the Carmelite tradition, these evenings will offer a space to pause, reflect, and rediscover the deeper meaning of the Lenten season. All are warmly invited to attend and to journey together in discovering the gift of God during this sacred time.
