Child Abuse
Disclosing & Reporting Concerns, Knowledge & Allegations of Child Abuse
Are you an adult who experienced abuse in your childhood?
Most of the people who contact the Carmelite safeguarding office are adults who experienced abuse in their childhood. They have helped us to understand the barriers to disclosing abuse. We offer you a confidential space to speak to our DLP about your experience of abuse. You can expect to be listened to in a supportive and sensitive way. The journey of healing is different for each victim and survivor of childhood abuse. We will work with you, at your pace, to identify support services that can assist you on that journey.
As mandated persons we must report information that we receive about abuse to Tusla, the Child & Family Agency and to an Garda Síochána. This might seem dauting at first, but people from those agencies are also there to support you and to keep children safe.
If you would like to speak to our DLP, in confidence, please telephone Julie McCullough on 0871947212 or email her on dlp@gortmuire.com.
Are you a child or young person who is experiencing abuse or who has been abused?
We know that telling someone about this abuse can be scary. Our job is to help you to start to feel safe again. If you contact us and tell us about the abuse that is happening to you, we will listen to you and help you. It is likely that we will have to tell a social worker in Tusla and an Garda Síochána what you tell us but that is just because their job is to keep all children safe.
You can phone our DLP Julie McCullough on 0871947212 or email her on dlp@gortmuire.com.
Are you worried that a child is being abused?
As a society, in recent years, we have elevated our awareness and understanding of what children need to enrich their wellbeing as they develop and grow. Child abuse is a frightening experience that usually has a life long impact on the victim. We must all strive to help any child that we believe is being abused or who is at risk of experiencing abuse.
If you have a concern about a child, our DLP, Julie McCullough, is available for advice, guidance and assistance in how to respond effectively to prevent any further harm to that child. Julie McCullough can be contacted on 0871947212 or dlp@gortmuire.com.
As mandated persons we must report information that we receive about child abuse to Tusla, the Child & Family Agency and to an Garda Síochána.
