The Carmelites in Ireland Today
The Carmelites have care of two parishes in Dublin city:
Whitefriar Street in the heart of the city and Knocklyon in the suburbs in
the south of the city. In County Kilkenny we also have a parish at Ballyhale which is served by the community at Knocktopher.
To our churches in Kinsale, Knocktopher, Kildare, and Moate many come to
share our celebrations of the Eucharist and other forms of public worship.
The churches are open for visits to the Blessed Sacrament and personal
prayer.
Irish Carmelites are committed to education at all levels. This commitment
is vibrant in our schools in Whitefriar Street and Terenure College and also
in Zimbabwe. Carmelites are also members of the teaching staff at the Milltown
Institute of Theology and Philosophy in Dublin, and at St Patrick's College,
Maynooth and the National University of Ireland Maynooth. In all of this work we aim
to give a particular vision of life which is both Christian and Carmelite.
The social well-being of people is of great concern to us all. In all our
houses we take every opportunity to care for this need, through hospitality,
organising clubs, pastoral visitation and arranging courses and seminars.
In all we have eight foundations in
Ireland today and people are welcome to visit them
for prayer in our churches, for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, to take
part in retreats and courses that we run, or for a quiet chat.
