Welcome to the Irish Province of the Order of Carmelites
(O.Carm)

Beaumont

In 1981, the Archdiocese of Dublin asked the Province to takeThe Church of the Nativity of Our Lord, Beaumont over responsibility for the Parish of the Nativity of Our Lord, Beaumont. In recent years a new community centre has been added to the parish church.

A scattered community but officially part of Donnycarney Parish, Beaumont hadStatue of Our Lady in the Church of the Nativity of Our Lord no schools except for a Montessori school run by the Sisters of Mercy and later the Mercy College. Parents at that time brought their children to Primary Schools in Donnycarney, Fairview, Marino, Larkhill, St. Patrick’s and Corpus Christi and even as far as the inner city. With no church of their own the people of Beaumont went to Mass in the old tin church in Donnycarney and the church in Larkhill. For over twenty years the only venue available for a meeting in the area was the Mercy College hall.

In the The Sanctuary of the Church of the Nativitymid 1970’s things began to change as the Archbishop appointed Fr. Martin Ryan and Fr. O’Halloran. Later Fr. Tom Colreavy and the late Fr. Seán Malone joined as curates with a view to establishing a new parish – The Parish of Beaumont. Fr. Ryan, with the co-operation of the sisters of Mercy, arranged for Sunday Mass to be celebrated in the Mercy College, and so the seeds of Beaumont Parish community were sown. St. Fiachra’s Junior School was built, and it opened its doors on January 7th 1976. This was followed in July 1978 by the Senior School.

Meanwhile the building of the church and presbytery  were in progress and eventually on 18th December 1977 the Church of the Nativity was blessed and opened, and Fr. Martin Ryan was installed as the first Parish Priest. Beaumont was constituted a parish covering the area of old Beaumont, Elm Mount, Ardmore/Montrose, Whitethorn and Beauvale.

In 1981 the Carmelites took over the pastoral care of the parish community. There was still more work to be done – due to the increasing pupil numbers an extra building for St. Fiachra’s school was opened in 1984. In the Spring of 1998 the Pastoral Centre was opened. And still the parish grows with Collinswood and Beaumont Woods having joined us in the last few years. Our Parish Community now spans over 2,000 homes and with families of every age and at every stage in life. Let us all celebrate this Silver Jubilee with thanks, for all that has been done in Beaumont Parish and with Faith and Hope let us look forward to another 25 years plus!
